Gemma was first elected as a Community Youth Representative in June 2021 and since then has played a crucial role in bridging the gap between the town's youth and the council, serving as a vital conduit for their ideas and perspectives.

Her commitment to gathering and relaying the voices of the younger generation, actively participating in meetings and discussions, and encouraging more young people to get involved in town council activities and events has been commendable.

Reflecting on her experience, Gemma shared,

"I really enjoyed my time as the Youth Rep"

"This time around was a lot better with regular meetings, allowing me to express myself and my interests more effectively."

"It has been an incredibly fun experience, and I can't wait to see what the next youth rep will bring to the table. Thank you for having me on the council."

As the Town Clerk Ed Humphreys elaborated, the role of a Community Youth Representative is vital in providing a younger voice and promoting representative democracy in action. While the youth representative is not an elected councillor and must be over 15 years of age, their role is instrumental in understanding the needs and aspirations of young residents.

The council is now on the hunt for a new community youth rep.
