The Poppy Appeal runs until Remembrance Sunday on 12 November and the money raised will help the Royal British Legion provide vital support to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families, offering expert guidance and assistance with recovery and civilian life transitions all year round.

On Tuesday, October 31, Cllr Matthew Dorrance, Deputy Leader and the council's Armed Forces Champion, joined Poppy Appeal volunteers at Tesco in Llandrindod Wells to collect for this important cause.

Cllr Dorrance said:

"I am very proud to wear a poppy and I am pleased the council is supporting the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal".

"I urge everybody to get involved in this year's campaign and wear a poppy in tribute to the those who sacrificed so much to protect our way of life. Every penny donated supports the Armed Forces community to get the vital help and support they need.

"I hope that Powys residents will observe the two-minute silence on Armistice Day as well as attending their local Remembrance Sunday service as we pay tribute to those serving the country today, as well as honouring the service men and women who gave their lives in conflict."

Dave Hurley, Poppy Appeal Organiser in Llandrindod Wells, said: "The Armed Forces carry out their role with courage and humility, but often play down the sacrifice and bravery required to serve.

"They won't tell you what it means to say goodbye to loved ones and face the possibility of never coming home. It can be difficult to imagine the dangers faced and sacrifices made by the men and women of our Armed Forces.

"During the Poppy Appeal and all year round, we provide support for members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families. By making a donation, you could help those in need within our Armed Forces community."
