The event, which aims to traverse an entire county in a single day, will take walkers, runners, and relay teams on an unforgettable journey from Machynlleth to Montgomery, two historically significant towns.

The adventure begins in Machynlleth, Wales' historic capital, and extends eastward toward the English border, culminating in the charming town of Montgomery. Participants will navigate a diverse range of terrains, including public rights of way, the breathtaking Glyndwr's Way National Trail, country lanes, and the meandering Montgomery Canal. Along the way, they will pass through characterful communities such as Staylittle, Trefeglwys, Caersws, Newtown, and Abermule.

The Rotary Across Wales Walk offers something for everyone, catering to seasoned pros with calendars brimming with events, as well as those seeking a new challenge.

Five distance options are available to participants, allowing them to choose the level of difficulty that suits them best. The options include the full Machynlleth to Montgomery route covering 46 miles, the Staylittle to Montgomery route spanning 30 miles, the Caersws to Montgomery route covering 19 miles, the Newtown to Montgomery route encompassing 11 miles, and the Abermule to Montgomery route spanning 6 miles.

This remarkable event traces its origins back to the late Bernard Wakely, former Principal of the Montgomery College of Further Education in Newtown (now NPTC Newtown Campus). After growing in popularity, the administration of the walk was passed on to others. In 2001, the Foot and Mouth crisis forced the event to be abandoned temporarily, but it made a triumphant return in 2006 when the Rotary Clubs took over its organization.

Organized by a small core team, the event relies on the support of numerous volunteers who lend their helping hands on the day of the walk. The Rotary Clubs of Newtown, Machynlleth, and Llanidloes collaborate to host the event, raising funds for a designated charity each year.

Best of luck to all those participating!
