At the recent meeting of the town council's Strategy & Corporate Projects Committee, members were given an update on the progress of the potential Town Partnership consisting of Public, Private, and Voluntary organizations aiming to enhance the town's development.

The Committee expressed their appreciation for the work carried out by Councillor Chris Jones 'on the ground' and recognized his role as the assistant project lead.

Subsequently, Councillor Pete Lewington, the project lead, presented a verbal update to the committee, giving an update on recent workshops held on 10th and 27th October for stakeholders from the voluntary and business sectors.

The discussions during these workshops were reported as positive, with attendees demonstrating a willingness to promote the partnership to fellow businesses and voluntary organizations in Newtown.

During the workshops, several priorities were emphasized by the business sector, including the use of digital noticeboards and the establishment of an events program for the town.

Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the impact of bird nuisance on both the local environment and the economy, prompting a request for the committee's support in finding a solution to the issue.

The bird problem was suggested as a suitable project for the proposed Town Partnership to consider.

The committee was reassured to learn that there is considerable interest from private and voluntary organizations to move the project forward.

A first partnership meeting is scheduled to take place by the end of November, where county councillors will also be encouraged to actively participate, presenting the public sector representation.

Invitations for the inaugural meeting of the Town Partnership will be circulated shortly, as stakeholders eagerly set their sights on collaborative efforts to advance Newtown's growth and prosperity.

With input from all three sectors, the Town Partnership aims to create a dynamic and sustainable environment that addresses the community's needs while leveraging the resources and expertise of the public, private, and voluntary sectors.
