The move has been warmly welcomed by Craig Williams, the Welsh Conservative MP representing Montgomeryshire, who recognizes the pressing challenges faced by pensioners in the current economic climate.

The pilot program targets pensioners in Montgomeryshire who are currently receiving Housing Benefit. These individuals will soon receive a letter encouraging them to apply for Pension Credit, a top-up scheme that can make a significant difference in their lives. The goal is to reach out to eligible individuals who have not yet taken advantage of this support.

Pension Credit offers an additional income of up to £3,500 per year, providing a much-needed financial boost to pensioners. Beyond the cash top-up to the State Pension, this program unlocks access to other crucial benefits, including assistance with housing costs, council tax reduction schemes, support with heating bills, and a free over-75s TV license.

Craig Williams MP has expressed his support for the pilot, highlighting the importance of promoting Pension Credit as a top priority. Recognizing the challenges pensioners are facing amidst inflation and rising costs, Williams believes that the scheme could significantly improve the financial situation for many Montgomeryshire residents.

Speaking about the initiative, Craig Williams MP said:

"It is great that this pilot is being run within Powys, encouraging pensioners across Montgomeryshire who may be eligible for an extra £3,500 a year of support through Pension Credit to apply. This will make a big difference to many residents, so I would urge everyone to look into whether they or their loved ones are eligible."

Pension Credit can be claimed online or over the phone. Information is available on Gov.UK websitewww.gov.uk/pension-credit or by calling the Freephone Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234.

As the program takes off in Powys, pensioners in Montgomeryshire are urged to seize the opportunity and explore the benefits Pension Credit can offer. The scheme's potential to provide an extra £3,500 a year could make a significant difference in the lives of those who qualify, supporting them in various aspects of their daily lives.
