At it's monthly Services Committee, town councillors will be examining the monthly land management report from Open Newtown, who oversee 130 acres of open green spaces in Newtown, under a service level agreement with the town council.

The report discloses that Open Newtown has been actively responding to community concerns regarding the recurrent flooding of Dolerw Park pathways. The proposed solution involves the introduction of a french drain around the treeline, forming the boundary between Dolerw Park and the Gorsedd Stones. This drainage system aims to address standing water concerns, contingent upon favorable ground conditions.

Contractors have already provided cost estimates, and Open Newtown has sought approval from NRW (Natural Resources Wales) to move forward with the proposed french drain installation.

The report emphasises that the actual implementation hinges on improved ground conditions, showcasing a commitment to a responsible and effective approach.

This development responds directly to the persistent calls from the community, as previously highlighted by us in January.
