Town Councillors on the Services Committee will next week examine the latest Service Level Agreement update report from Open Newtown for January 2024.

The report indicates that Open Newtown, who manages 130 acres of green spaces on behalf of the Town Council, will continue to monitor and post signage by a 'particular' bin near the town hall. The fly tipping is causing the bin to overflow with waste, leading to a unsightly view in our amazing green spaces.

Fly-tipping is defined as the ‘illegal deposit of any waste onto land that does not have a licence to accept it’.  Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence for which you can be prosecuted.

The courts have various powers available to them to tackle fly-tipping, including imprisonment, unlimited fines and an order to deprive rights to a vehicle used to commit the offence.

The bins are emptied twice weekly by an Open Newtown contractor.
