Newtown Town Council's Resources Committee is set to award more than £9,000 in community grants to local organisations at their meeting on May 15th, 2023.

The committee will be reviewing applications from 9 organisations, including the Mid Wales Model Engineering Society, Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre, Treowen C.P. Primary School, and 2nd Newtown Guides.

Some of the grants include:

  • Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre - to purchase new divan beds & mattresses for the refuges that accomodate domestic abuse victims, including children.
  • Newtown WI - to promote the work of the WI at the Newtown Food Festival and Christmas Lights and to subsidise membership fees following Covid and during the cost of living crisis.
  • Newtown & District Civic Society - to contribute towards the costs of graphic design and printing of an illustrated book about the buildings of Newtown.
  • Treowen C.P. Primary School - to purchase sensory items for ALN pupils to aid with health and wellbeing

  Other Trending Stories

The Hub of Hope Foundation has also applied for £1,000 to fund a summer club for primary-aged children, while Freedom Leisure and N-Able's applications are still under review due to missing bank details, statements and accounts required for consideration.

The community grants fund, with an annual budget of £20,000, is managed and funded by Newtown Town Council and the applications are expected to be approved by the council's Resources Committee.
