As the festive season approaches, Newtown residents are advised to take note of the revised waste and recycling collection schedule in light of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The change in routine is due to the dedicated efforts of waste and recycling crews who will be taking a well-deserved break to spend time with their friends and family during the Christmas period.
On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, there will be no waste and recycling collections. The rescheduled collections will take place two days later than the usual schedule starting from Wednesday, 27 December. If your regular collection day falls on Thursday, 28 December, or Friday, 29 December, crews will be working on Saturday, 30 December, and Sunday, 31 December, respectively, to ensure your wheeled bin (or purple sacks) are emptied.

Recycling collections for this period will be delayed until the following week. Residents are encouraged to place double or extra recyclables during the rescheduled collection week.
Similarly, there will be no waste and recycling collections on New Year’s Day. For those with a regular collection day on Monday, 1 January, the rescheduled collection will take place on Tuesday, 2 January. Recycling collections will resume the following week, accepting double or extra recyclables.

Residents are advised to place additional items that won't fit into recycling containers in plastic or paper bags left next to their recycling boxes during the double or extra recycling collections.
Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys said:
"With collections scheduled throughout the festive period, we are encouraging households to make use of the service and reduce, reuse, and recycle as much of their household waste as possible."
"We all generate more waste than normal over Christmas and New Year, but most of it can be recycled - tin foil, food, glass jars and bottles, real Christmas trees, plain Christmas cards and wrapping paper, batteries, plastic pots, and bottles - we can all do our bit to make sure as much as possible is recycled."
For updates on collections, residents are urged to check online, especially in the event of extreme winter weather or unforeseen circumstances. Additionally, all Household Waste Recycling Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Alternative arrangements for green waste during bank holidays will not be available at the Brecon Household Waste Recycling Centre, which is currently closed for refurbishment.
