Town Councillors have recently decided to hold another special meeting to decide to award the position of honorary Freeman to a resident of the town.
At their last full meeting on the 24th July 2023, town councillors approved that a special meeting is to be arranged to decide whether or not award the third honorary freeman award in Newtown.
Due to data protection implications, the decision to arrange a special meeting was discussed in private and the identity of the individual which may recieve the town's highest honour is unknown.

A special meeting will now take place where two thirds of councillors have to decide to grant the honour.
Only 12 living people can hold the title and it is the highest honour a council can give to a person.
Currently two honorary freemen exist, David Pugh, a local historian who died a few years ago and was awarded the honour posthumously and Rory Evans, local campaigner was awarded the honour earlier this year.
