The charity is offering free home energy checks to eligible householders throughout Powys, providing a valuable opportunity for older individuals to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and reduce their energy bills.

The Age Cymru Powys Home Energy Check service is specifically designed for those aged 65 and above, residing in cold, damp, or poorly maintained homes, and facing difficulties in paying their energy bills. The program aims to alleviate the burden of high energy costs while ensuring that older residents can stay warm and well during the winter months.

Steve Cadwallader-Jones, the Home Energy Officer at Age Cymru Powys, emphasized the significance of addressing the current Cost-of-Living Crisis. He expressed understanding for the concerns many people face when it comes to paying gas and electric bills. "This can lead to older people cutting back on their heating, which we know can be dangerous as older individuals are more vulnerable to the impacts of living in a cold home," he explained.

To address these challenges, Age Cymru Powys provides simple energy efficiency equipment free of charge. The Home Energy Officer can visit eligible residents and install various measures to enhance the energy efficiency of their homes. These measures include fitting draught excluders around doors and windows, installing radiator reflector panels, providing energy-efficient lightbulbs, chimney draught excluders, water cylinder jackets, low-energy night lights, and cold alarms.

By implementing these energy-saving solutions, Age Cymru Powys aims to make homes more comfortable and affordable to heat, thereby helping older residents combat the adverse effects of living in cold environments. The organization's commitment to keeping older people warm and well aligns with its mission of supporting the health and wellbeing of elderly individuals throughout Powys.

Residents aged 65 and above who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity by contacting Age Cymru Powys. Steve Cadwallader-Jones can be reached directly at 01686 623707 or through email at [email protected]
