Police have provided an update to why there was a heavy police presence in the town centre on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Eve saw Newtown town centre experienced road closures and a heavy emergency service presence following a reported road traffic collision on High Street.

The incident unfolded late at night, prompting Dyfed-Powys Police to close off High Street and Back Lane for several hours.

The emergency services were quick to respond, with at least three police vehicles and an ambulance converging on the scene outside the Iceland and Charlies stores.

In an update to All About Newtown, Dyfed Powys Police said:

"Police were called at 10.35pm, Saturday, 23rd December, to a report of a road traffic collision on High Street, Newtown."

"The collision involved a pedestrian and a blue Kia Picanto. The male pedestrian was taken to hospital."

Authorities have not disclosed the current condition of the injured pedestrian.
