In a recent hearing at the UK Covid-19 inquiry, Baroness Eluned Morgan, the Welsh Labour health minister, made startling revelations about the treatment of Welsh people by the UK Government during the pandemic.

According to Baroness Morgan, people in Wales felt ignored and marginalized by Westminster, leading to feelings of being treated as "second-class citizens". One of the key points of contention raised by Baroness Morgan was the UK Government's refusal to provide financial support to help fund a longer lockdown in Wales.

She expressed concerns about the Welsh Government's ability to sustain a lockdown for an extended period, especially after the scientists recommended a three-week firebreak in October 2020.

Baroness Morgan revealed that the lack of financial assistance from the UK Government was "really disappointing" and left Wales feeling unsupported.

During the inquiry, text and email messages from Baroness Morgan were also brought to light, showing her candid thoughts and feelings during the tumultuous time.

She apologized for her "fruity language" in some messages and admitted to expressing concerns about decisions being made, including opening up borders to travelers from France while considering putting the country on the "red" restricted list.

Furthermore, Baroness Morgan's notebooks revealed her questioning the competence of Health Secretary Matt Hancock and referring to the Prime Minister as "chaos".

These insights shed light on the challenges faced by Welsh ministers during the pandemic and the frustrations they experienced in dealing with the UK Government. The inquiry is ongoing, and further revelations are expected to come to light as the investigation continues.
