As the anticipation builds for the Euro 2024 play-off games, Cymru Men's football team manager Rob Page is taking a brief hiatus from his squad preparations to host a charity evening in Newtown.

Titled "An Evening With Rob Page and Ian Gwyn Hughes," the event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 7th March at Newtown Football Club, with doors opening at 7 pm.

This exclusive event, organized by Menter Iaith Maldwyn and the Newtown Appeal Committee for the Urdd National Eisteddfod 2024, promises an engaging evening with all proceeds contributing to the local fundraising target. The Urdd National Eisteddfod, the largest touring youth festival in Europe, is set to grace Maldwyn/Montgomeryshire in 2024, marking its return to the region after a hiatus since 1988.

Llio Maddocks, Director of the Arts at Urdd Gobaith Cymru, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the Football Association of Wales and praised Rob Page for his contributions to the community. Maddocks said "Rob Page has done fantastic work supporting our communities, and we're very grateful to him for hosting a charity event that will raise money for the event, support our volunteers, and get everyone excited for Eisteddfod yr Urdd in Maldwyn!"

The evening will feature not only Rob Page but also former Match of the Day Commentator and current Head of Public Relations at the Cymru Football Association, Ian Gwyn Hughes. The event's agenda includes an interview with Rob about his time as the Cymru Manager, a bilingual football quiz during halftime, and an open Q&A session in the second half where fans can pose their questions.

Rhian Davies, Community Development Officer at Menter Iaith Maldwyn, expressed excitement about Rob Page's visit, especially during this crucial time for Welsh football. Ms Davies also extended an invitation for Rob to visit the mural commissioned during the 2022 World Cup Campaign, located on the wall of Charlies Stores in Newtown, for a potential photo opportunity.

Ian Gwyn Hughes and his team's efforts in promoting the Welsh language were acknowledged by Davies, who stated, "Ian and his team have done wonderful work promoting the Welsh language and changing people’s attitudes towards our language."

The evening will not only be about football discussions but will also feature a pop-up shop by Spirit of 58, a popular Welsh football merchandise company known for starting the bucket hat craze among Cymru fans. Attendees can also look forward to a football-themed raffle, with the main prize being a signed Cymru shirt from the squad gearing up for the Euro 2024 play-off games against Finland on March 21st and Estonia or Poland on March 26th.

Don't miss this opportunity to engage with Cymru's football manager and enjoy a night filled with football fervor, all while supporting a great cause in the heart of Newtown.
