A couple from Newtown who were jailed for the gross negligence manslaughter of their 16-year-old daughter, have had their sentences increased at the Court of Appeal.

Lord Justice Popplewell, sitting with Mrs Justice McGowan and His Honour Judge Bate, described the conditions Kaylea Titford was living in as “unimaginable squalor”.

Her mother, Sarah Lloyd-Jones, originally sentenced to six years, had her term raised to eight years, whilst her father, Alun Titford, previously sentenced to seven and a half years, will now serve 10 years.

The Crown Court heard that the teenager died from inflammation and infection caused by ulcers arising from obesity and immobility, and was found in bed-ridden squalor after her death in October 2020.
