A 20-year-old driver has been banned from the roads for over a year after being arrested twice within five days for drug driving in Newtown.

According to the Powys County Times, Kian Jones, who had no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to two counts of driving a black Fiat Punto with drugs in his system.

On August 31, Mr Jones was pulled over by officers who noticed he had "glazed over eyes". He failed a roadside test and was taken to the police station where a drug test revealed he had 2.3 micrograms of Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol, a metabolite of cannabis, in his system. The legal limit is two micrograms.

Just five days later, Mr Jones failed another roadside test and subsequently arrested him. Another drug test at the police station revealed that he had 2.4 micrograms of the same drug in his system.

During the court hearing on Tuesday, Magistrates, decided to ban Jones from driving for 16 months and ordered him to pay a £350 fine, a £140 victim surcharge, and £85 court costs.
