The League of Friends of Montgomeryshire County Infirmary, a local group dedicated to fundraising for Newtown Hospital, is extending an invitation for new members to join its ranks.

The organization is specifically looking for individuals to fill the positions of Secretary and Treasurer, as current committee members Joy Williams and Gill Foxley will be stepping down from their roles.

Established in 1975, the League of Friends has been instrumental in raising funds for the MCI in Newtown, contributing nearly £80,000 over the past five years. The funds are utilized to improve the hospital's grounds and acquire essential equipment.

During their 45th Annual General Meeting held on May 10, 2023, the League of Friends bid farewell to Peris Astley, who had served as Chair for an impressive four decades. Astley was recognized and thanked by the committee for his unwavering support to the charity. Stepping into the role of Chair is Bryn Evans, who brings fresh perspectives and enthusiasm to the organization.

As the League of Friends looks to expand its membership, it warmly welcomes individuals interested in joining the Committee. The Committee convenes six times a year to discuss initiatives and plans, in addition to participating in various fundraising and awareness activities.

Retiring as Chairman, Peris Astley said:

“Thank you to everyone who joined our recent coffee morning, which was a joyous occasion raising £495 for the charity. It has been a privilege to serve on the League of Friends for the last 40 years, and I wish Bryn every success.”

“We particularly welcome younger members to join our Committee including people from local businesses looking for opportunities to build social partnership and corporate citizenship.”

Those interested in joining the League of Friends can contact them by emailing [email protected].

The League of Friends of Montgomeryshire County Infirmary is a registered charity under number 1049587. It operates with the sole purpose of supporting Newtown Hospital and making a meaningful difference to the community's healthcare services.
