Newtown College recently hosted a remarkable day of exploration into robotics, engineering, and IT, thanks to a generous donation from cutting-edge industry leader Reeco Automation.

The event highlighted the power of collaboration between education and industry, showcasing the fusion of learning and real-world application. The highlight of the day was the donation of a cutting-edge robot to Newtown College, setting the stage for an inspiring journey into the future of technology and learning.

The event was made possible through the partnership between education providers in Powys and businesses like Reeco, who held workshops with students from Newtown College, Newtown High School, and Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd.

Deputy Mayor Mike Childs, a former science teacher, was also in attendance along with the Mid Wales Manufacturing Group, emphasising the importance of collaborative working in STEM education.

The students had the opportunity to work with skilled workers from Reeco, learning how to program the robots to carry out various tasks.

Nick Howells, Reeco Operations Manager said:

"We want to work in collaboration with college as much as possible. By donating the robot, we hope this cements a positive relationship for the future."

"We hope we can continue to visit the College to show off new solutions to the students and foster career opportunities for students to progress and work locally."

Aimee Lane, Head of Engineering at Newtown College, thanked Reeco for their donation and emphasized the unique learning experience it will provide for the students.

NPTC Group of Colleges, Director of Partnerships, Kathryn Dunstan concluded the event saying:

"Today has been a thoroughly successful event engaging both local schools and college learners with local employers."

"It has given learners a chance to see real life applications and meet with potential employers. We hope to continue this positive approach to working and thank all those involved in making this a successful and enjoyable event."
